Castle Water Wetland
Castle Water is owned by the Sussex Wildlife Trust and is managed as part of Rye Harbour Nature Reserve. It is fresh water and has long been known as an excellent site for aquatic invertebrates, such as the Medicinal Leech and Spangled Button Beetle. Since its purchase in 1992 there has been considerable wetland habitat creation and enhancement and it is now a great area for watching a range of rare species, with a network of footpaths, a hide and viewpoint overlooking the now extensive reeds.
